Jake Bugg

Jake Bugg today announces his Your Town Tour for 2024, which will see him play 15 headline dates across the UK at some of the country’s smaller towns and venues, bringing live music back to the heart of communities.

“I can’t wait to get out and play tons of tunes to people in their hometowns”,

Over the last few years, the 29-year-old, who has 4 albums and numerous hit singles to his name, has grown into himself and gone from strength to strength. He stepped out of his comfort zone and is in the form of his life. His new music was embraced across the media. Saturday Night, Sunday Morning’s two stellar singles ‘All I Need’ & ‘Lost’, both produced by Steve Mac, were inescapable hits, booming across the airwaves, playlisted on Radio 1, Radio 2 & Radio X, and Jake turned in a stellar performance of ‘All I Need’ on Graham Norton on BBC1.

Steve Mason

Steve Mason

Chat to Steve Mason about his fifth solo album – the stirring and stunning Brothers & Sisters– and all manner of musical touchpoints crop up. From Wu-Tang Clan and LTJ Bukem to Adam & The Ants and Public Image Limited by way of Mahalia Jackson and The Cramps, Mason not only knows his musical onions, but remains resolutely a fan. However, when it came to looking for guidance and inspiration for the best album of his career – no mean feat when you consider his back catalogue – his cultural lodestar was expertly chosen.

“David Bowie said that artists should push themselves to a point where they felt slightly out of their depth,” he explains. “Because that’s where the magic happens. And there were a lot of times during the making of this record that I felt like that. And I quite enjoyed that. Because I haven’t felt like that for quite a long time. It’s felt quite safe over the last few albums. It’s that thing… the fear of failure, it’s then when you realise the failure could be spectacular. It’s what drives you to make this thing work. To keep pushing forward.”

In the wake of his fourth album, About The Light, Mason, one of British music’s true 21st Century renegades, with a back catalogue that has taken in electro, dub, indie rock, electronica, hip hop, folk and everything in-between, felt creatively bereft. Allied to this was the weight of adult responsibility that was starting to bear down heavily on him. In the space of a year he’d got married, had a child and bought a house. The spectre of making a safe, radio-friendly record – a sensation he felt he had already encroached upon with About The Light – didn’t sit easily.

So in order to become an artist again, the erstwhile Beta Band frontman knew he had to demolish what he had become. Or was in danger of becoming. He had to become a child again. Which, funnily enough, was what being in The Beta Band – that wondrously electrifying, infuriatingly magical Anglo-Scottish four-piece – resembled.

In 2020 then, at a time when the world seemed to be falling apart, Mason went on his own destructive crusade. To completely cleanse himself of any radio-friendly, formulaic mediocrity and rediscover his artistic calling wasn’t an easy process. Experimenting with various approaches enabled him to shed some layers, but it wasn’t until he realised that everything he’s most proud of starts with a song that things really began to positively unravel – as it were.

The finished album is arguably the most open, honest and vibrant record of Mason’s career. Like many of his previous records it marries the personal and the political but does so in an emotive and uplifting manner. Written against a backdrop of fear and uncertainty, and at a time when those in charge lurched from one disaster to the next mismanagement with increasing regularity, Brothers & Sisters is in fact an incredibly joyous, even spiritual, listen.

For Mason, writing and recording the album was a fun, experimental affair with producer Tev'n and musician Susumu ‘Zongamin’ Mukai encouraging this fertile creative process. A spiritual and pleasingly rhythmical record, with musical contributions from feted Pakistani singer Javed Bashir, British gospel singers Jayando Cole, Keshia Smith, Connie McCall & Adrian Blake and Kaviraj Singh on the santoor it’s a real collision of cultures.

“To me, this record is a massive ‘Fuck you’ to Brexit,” he says, barely bothering to disguise his disgust at the events of 2016 and beyond. “And a giant ‘Fuck you’ to anyone that is terrified of immigration because there is nothing that immigration has brought to this country that isn’t to be applauded. Can you imagine what this place would be like without that [immigration]? I mean what would it be like? Cornish pasties and morris dancing?.”

“Our generation,” he sighs. “I guess we… I naively thought that we’d dealt with racism. I naively thought we’d dealt with homophobia. I thought we’d sorted all that out – with the help of a little bit of E. But it turns out we were wrong.”

Brothers & Sisters then is a record about bringing people together through art, music and culture. A lofty aim, no doubt, but one that Mason has achieved – through a lot of perspiration and a little demolition – on the best album of his 25-year career in sonic wanderlust.

“That’s always been the aim,” he concludes. “To change the world through music. I still don’t know what that means. But I’ll never stop trying. Because that’s why I’m here.”

Or, in other words, finding strength, compassion and beauty through creativity. It might have taken a picaresque journey to get there, but there’s no doubt Steve Mason has reached the apex of his creativity on Brothers & Sisters.

This Is The Kit

In today's fast-paced mid-apocalyptic world it can feel like a waste of time to speak about time at all. Why dwell on the past when we could just live in the present because the future won't shut up about how bad it's going to be?

But with This Is The Kit, the pseudonym of songwriter / banjo strummer / pinhole camera lover / Winchester UK born Paris dweller Kate Stables, we're going to have to give time just a modicum of consideration. Because not only is Kate still here and making albums of cataclysmic honesty and welcoming tonal embraces, they are continuing to grow, which is probably the only smart way to move forward through time.

This Is The Kit's music places companionship at a premium, so being welcomed into its space feels like an obvious privilege, on record and in concert hall with her stellar supporting cast of Rozi Plain (bass), Jamie Whitby-Coles (drums) and Neil Smith (guitar). And at this current point in our confusing history, continuing to be here at all, to stand tall and make music to gather to, that's a heroic act. Joyful survival as an act of time-wasting, I'll take that any day of the week. Look to This Is The Kit to spend at least one day of your week this year, I guarantee it will be time well wasted.

Bernard Butler

Bernard Butler
+ Teenage Waitress

Bernard Butler has been noted as one of Britain's most original and influential musicians. In 1989 he formed Suede releasing the Mercury winning No.1 debut “Suede” and the era-defining “Dog Man Star”, a sprawling concept of rare ambition. His collaboration with David McAlmont on the anthemic ”Yes" provided an intriguing footprint across Britpop’s otherwise jingoist landscape culminating in 2 albums and a sell out at London's Roundhouse in 2015.

He released two solo albums on Creation, the acclaimed "People Move On" yielding the hit single "Stay", and "Friends and Lovers” and a Brit nomination before moving into a celebrated period as producer and songwriter including seminal releases by The Libertines, Tricky, Black Kids, Kate Nash, Nerina Pallot, Teleman, The Cribs, James Morrison, Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Frankie & The Heartstrings, Texas, Mark Eitzel, Mull Historical Society, Sam Lee, Oscar Lang and Paloma Faith.

In 2005 he began a collaboration with Duffy spawning her five million-selling, Grammy and Brit Award winning debut Rockferry, whilst Butler won the Producer's Award at the 2009 BRIT Awards.

He has played guitar live or on records by Pet Shop Boys, Bryan Ferry, Roy Orbison, Bert Jansch, The Libertines, Neneh Cherry, Robert Plant and Ben Watt with whom he toured extensively. Butler's group Trans released a series of EPs featuring tracks grown out of improvisational recordings made at Butler's own Studio 355.

Butler acts as proud Patron to the Bert Jansch Foundation, hosts a radio show "BB & The King" on Boogaloo Radio, and is a Lecturer at BIMM London developing students through their BA in Songwriting. He composed the original score to BBC Horizons documentary "Back From The Dead" and collaborated in songwriting camps and sessions for Warner-Chappell Publishing. He conducts audience-led PreProduction events around the country for the Musicians Union and is a Patron of the Music Venue Trust.

He is currently working on a new collaboration alongside his first solo material in 20 years.

Teenage Waitress

In Ash's own words Teenage Waitress is "a collection of short stories set to what I hope are some instantly hummable tunes. Then once a song feels pretty enough, I'll drown it all out with fuzzy, obnoxious guitars and synths that sound a bit poorly. And as for the Waitress? Well, that's the eavesdropping listener!"

Wheatus

Teenage years may be fleeting, but it seems ‘Teenage Dirtbag’ is for life, as Wheatus’ debut single popped up yet again in 2022, making itself known in a way never seen before in the form of a TikTok trend. The “Teenage Dirtbag photos” trend has now been embraced by nearly a million people, including celebrities such as Madonna, Lady Gaga, Mark Ruffalo, Lil Nas X, Jon Bon Jovi, Chevy Chase, and countless others, resulting in the hashtag #teenagedirtbag being viewed over 2 billion times worldwide.

So it’s been a busy couple of years for Wheatus. They continue to spend as much time as possible on the road, both for headline shows and as a support act (most recently with Everclear, Hoobastank & Living Colour on the Summerland 2021 tour) across North America. Wheatus have also made a triumphant return to festival stages, playing high profile events like Audacy Beach Fest (also featuring Muse, Jack White, The 1975 and Machine Gun Kelly) and Adjacent Fest (also featuring Paramore, Coheed & Cambria, and the newly reunited Blink-182). While managing the sudden influx of attention and press, the independent six-piece band have been continuing their ongoing project of re-releasing their debut album (in a twenty-song expanded edition featuring “lost” songs from throughout the years), creating content for their endlessly loyal fanbase on Patreon, and getting ready for whatever the future throws at them next.

To date, the eclectic rock outfit has now released six studio albums, two live albums, and multiple additional singles.

Graham Gouldman's Heart Full of Songs

IT IS ONLY BETWEEN 10cc's SELL-OUT, BI-ANNUAL UK TOURS THAT THE BAND’S CO-FOUNDER GRAHAM GOULDMAN IS ABLE TO FULLY INDULGE HIS HEART FULL OF SONGS PROJECT AND TAKE IT ON TOUR

As a result the semi-acoustic four-piece perform a broad spread of Graham’s song-writing catalogue, including chart hits for 10cc, The Hollies, Herman’s Hermits, The Yardbirds, Jeff Beck and his time in Wax with Andrew Gold.

The band line-up comprises Graham, 10cc live band members Iain Hornal and Keith Hayman, and Dave Cobby.

Graham’s status as one of the world’s leading songwriters was acknowledged in 2014 with his induction into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame – an arm of America’s National Academy of Music. Previous inductees include Noel Coward, Irving Berlin, Burt Bacharach, Neil Sedaka, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Elton John, Leonard Cohen and Sting.

In 2015 Broadcast Music Incorporated in the US anointed him an Icon of the Industry at a special ceremony in London, where he stunned the audience with an acoustic rendition of I’m Not In Love, which he co-wrote, accompanied by Lisa Stansfield on vocals.

When Graham formed what became Heart Full of Songs nine years ago, it was purely for the pleasure of playing his songs in their simplest form, acoustically. The format became so popular that Heart Full of Songs now tours the UK every two years, along with concerts and festival appearances in the UK and Europe.

For lovers of perfectly-crafted music performed by the composer, a Heart Full of Songs concert is truly an exquisite experience.

Needless to say, the band also features tracks from Graham’s acclaimed solo albums, And Another Thing, Love And Work, Play Nicely And Share and 2020’s Modesty Forbids.

KT Tunstall

KT Tunstall

KT Tunstall burst onto the music scene with her 2004 multi-platinum debut, Eye to the Telescope, which spawned the global hits "Black Horse and the Cherry Tree" and "Suddenly I See." These songs established Tunstall as a captivating, must-see performer, as well as a Songwriter with a singular knack for balancing introspective folk and propulsive rock. "I feel there are two immediate, recognizable pillars of my style," she says. "I have this troubadour, acoustic guitar-driven emotional side. Then there's definitely a rocker side of me with sharper teeth."

In the last few years, the Grammy-nominated Scottish Musician has expanded on these musical selves by focusing on a trilogy of records, where each album zeroes in on a single concept: soul, body and mind. The first, 2016's KIN, was the soul record; 2018's WAX was the body record, and the new NUT is the mind record.

Produced by Martin Terefe, who co-wrote her 2005 global hit "Other Side of the World," NUT draws on Tunstall's love of percussive West African grooves as a metaphor for the learning patterns of the mind, and is an eclectic album that seamlessly weaves together disparate styles. She found her writing mojo thanks to "Canyons," a song propelled by a grimy, heavy rock riff. In keeping with NUT’s theme, the song's lyrics are about the canyon-like physiology of the brain, and explore the parallels between humans developing unique identities and the way nature evolves and is shaped over time. Elsewhere, NUT’s lyrics and sound delve into KT’s own personal evolution, and the way we all evolve through the repetition of behaviors and our reactions to life experiences. "Private Eyes" grew out of Tunstall's brush with the vampiric downside of fame, while "Three," summarizes the arc of the trilogy, inspired by a journal practice where she would write multiple entries on one topic from the different perspectives of mind, body and soul.

"It was necessary in the circumstances to make NUT completely differently from any other record I’ve made," Tunstall says. "But I was excited and ready for that. The reason I pursued music was because I had to avoid a repetitive job. I need to feel a constant sense of exploration in life. I've realized you can easily fall into repetition even in this job. And so for NUT, I was like, 'Come on, let's do what we said we were going to do. Let's push into something new.' What’s always most important is making an exciting, meaningful record that I love, and to have fun while I’m doing it."

Plus support from Tom Speight

London based singer/songwriter Tom Speight is a driven talent with a string of EPs and a full-length album under his belt, gaining strong radio support from BBC Radio 2 with seven playlisted records in a row, and over 200 million streams across DSPs. Since 2014, he has gained international recognition from the UK, to Germany to Brazil, headlining shows and supporting some of the biggest acts, from Ed Sheeran, Snow Patrol, to Ben Howard and Travis.

He’s now got a new album in the pipeline. It is bigger, bolder and poppier than the folky Collide and a celebration of living life to the max. A timely reminder to approach every day as an adventure, and an invitation to ride alongside him as he travels the world wide-eyed. Recorded with producer Chris Bond in Devon / Rich Turvey in London and featuring contributions from regular collaborators Lydia Clowes and Turin Brakes, the album was written as lockdown loomed and recorded over a socially-distanced summer. Sunny song titles, boisterous guitars, shimmering electronics and lashings of beautiful backing vocals are among its most enticing calling cards.

And support from Beth Sarah

Beth Sarah is a singer-songwriter known for her uplifting lyrics and 90s indie sound. Growing up in Worthing, she began writing songs at 14 and spent several years writing and gigging until she had children. The songwriting continued, and in 2020 after an extensive parenting break, she released her first solo track, Rollerskates. She has since formed a full band and released the album Let Her Go in February 2023. This album reflects the changes and personal growth she experienced after deciding to pursue her lifelong passion of music full time.

Reverend And The Makers

With an unbroken run of 6 Top 20 albums to date, the band's seventh offering ‘Heatwave In The Cold North’ looks likely to follow suit. It could even find itself placed in the top 10, a first to do so since their debut 16 years ago. The opening single from forthcoming album of the same name ‘Heatwave In The Cold North’, has become their biggest hit in over a decade. The hazy, sun drenched Barry White-inspired soul bop, was added to Radio 2’s B list and named their Record of the Week. The track became a Top 10 UK airplay chart fixture as the summer came to a close. This was followed by the softly spangled psychedelic soul of ‘High, an ode to Isaac Hayes, Curtis Mayfrield and long hazy afternoons. As well as typically catchy ear-worm ‘Problems’. The fourth and final single before the album release was ’A Letter To My 21 Year Old Self’. Ahead of this release Jon has launched a campaign for fans to send in a letter that they’ve written to their own 21 Year Old Selves. They formed part of a pop-up exhibition/ mass therapy session in Fagans Pub, Sheffield that gave locals the chance to come along and meet Jon, get an exclusive listen to the album & have a pint. His friends and supporters have already got involved with the likes of Brian Eno, Mel C, Jeremy Corbyn, Carl Barat, Joey Barton, Helen Chamberlain, Steve Lamacq, Richard Hawley + more writing letters for the exhibition. Many went on to comment on how cathartic they had found the experience.

Never resting on their laurels and constantly striving to challenge perceptions of the band, Reverend and the Makers have become one of the enduring and great survivors of the British music scene. With a career spanning two decades Jon McClure and his collective of musicians burst onto the scene with their Top 5 charting debut album, ‘The State of Things’. The album spawned the UK top 10 single "Heavyweight Champion of the World". The five albums since have seen the band move through several incarnations, sounds and line ups and experience all the highs, and most of the lows, that the music industry has to offer. Each album has reached the Top 20 of the UK album charts, an impressive unbroken run of six albums. These albums have seen them cut across a creative

spectrum, ranging from collective efforts to the frontman’s singular visions. Instead, The Makers is more a sobriquet, a statement of intent, a commitment and a guiding principle that has seen McClure consistently strive to build, innovate and grow musically and artistically. The Reverend’s story is one of the great survival stories of the music industry as charisma, talent, defiance and sheer willpower sees the band start a new chapter reenergized and raring to go. With a point to prove, with ‘Heatwave In The Cold North’, Reverend And The Makers set about the task in hand armed to the teeth with an arsenal of their biggest, best and most accessible and ambitious songs to date.

The band's sound is defined by two acoustic guitars and vocal harmonies delivered by Wakefield natives Will Booth and Danny Hepworth, while the exquisite and ever-so-slightly haunted vocal and lyricism in the midst of it all belongs to front man Ryan Johnston, born in Belfast to a Catholic mother from the Republican area and a Protestant father from the other side of town.

Their polar opposite backgrounds meant a family move to Bangor before Ryan later moved to England, where he met Will and Danny at an open mic night and formed the band.

Skinny Living have been active since 2014.In that time they have amassed over 60 million streams world wide without releasing a full studio album, however the trio are now on course to release their Debut Album in 2023.

The band recently shared the meaning behind their name, which is apt given their songs are often full of big dreams from a modest background:

“Skinny Living is a term that describes the financial reality and lifestyle of the working class. Hard graft on a low income with a lust for life, passion for family and an optimistic attitude about the future.”

Swim School

Moulded by their Edinburgh surroundings, swim school absorb influence from a wide range of genres; from 90’s grunge to modern indie and dream-pop. The release of their 2021 critically acclaimed debut EP, ‘making sense of it all’ saw vocalist & guitarist Alice Johnson enter the same space occupied by the likes of Ellie Rowsell (Wolf Alice) and Juliette Jackson (The Big Moon) – tackling delicate subjects with a vibrant yet evocative presence.

2021 also saw the band perform at Latitude Festival, All Points East and TRNSMT Festival, as well as support slots for Declan McKenna, The Snuts and Coach Party, and a storming live sets for BBC Introducing.

2022 has so far seen swim school make another massive leap forward. Recently signed to tastemaker LAB Records, praised by key titles including NME, CLASH, The Line of Best Fit, DORK, and Under The Radar and having the sort of  summer festival run that is the envy of many more established artists.

And in amongst it all, they have recorded their next EP (and first on LAB)  'Duality' with producer Iain Berryman (Wolf Alice, Arcade Fire, Kings Of Leon, Hozier). The first single from that EP comes on November 16th in the shape of the haunting yet gripping 'Kill You'. The song showcases everything to love about swim school - soaring guitar soundscapes, hooks galore and a massive chorus.

With more music rolling out form January heading into the EP in May,  are swim school 2023 'Ones to Watch?' You bet.

Deema X Kish!

Deema

It’s hard to work out what feels more exciting about 21-year-old rapper, Deema. The fact that his borderless approach to the rap is something that feels like it could only exist in Today’s forward-thinking urban landscape. “I just try and make every song I do different to the last one,” he explains. Or the reassuring fact that amongst a now expansive UK rap culture splintering into cross-pollinating street sounds, a fresh-faced new name can raise his head with a flow that somehow feels just timeless.

Following his explosive debut EP ‘Chew Your Food’ in 2020, which tore its way across streaming playlists, press and radio, which, for a bit of context, saw Deema claiming five separate tracks all in the same Spotify ‘Fresh Finds Hip Hop’ at the same time! Including the No. 1 spot with anthem ‘Hash Brown’. Media champions ranged from the likes Toddla T and Jamz Supernova to FADER, Complex and NME. The EP dexterously showcased Deema’s trademark versatility, taking us from party-bound bass-quakes like ‘Hash Brown’ to conscious bangers like ‘Rat Race’, which attempts to dissect the meaning of it all... Now he’s readying the release of of next opus, ‘Rainbow’, that’s set to take things to the next level and beyond, staying true to both his hip-hop stylings and grime roots, but hinting at a crossover ambition that looks set to make him one of 2021’s true breakthrough stars.

Kish!

Since 2017, South London bred creative Kish Fantastic has worked to become a beacon of the UK alternative rap scene. Like many internet-bred artists, Kish!’s style is a melting pot of influences, fusing elements of grime, trap, UK drill and alternative hip-hop to create a slick style punctuated by his percussive flow and witty lyricism.

Over the last few years, Kish! has built an impressive discography, his Bandcamp proving to be a treasure trove of hidden gems including the likes of 2017 EP Flagrant Death. The consistent quality of his output coupled with wacky music videos that ooze creativity, have helped him amass a cult following, but going forward Kish! is hoping to transcend the niche space he currently occupies

Everything this creative does is driven by a DIY ethos and an industriousness comparable to leaders of influential collectives such as Tyler, The Creator of Odd Future and Brockhampton’s Kevin Abstract. Like them, Kish! plays by his own rules and it’s not hard to imagine him going on to reshape the scene around him in a similar fashion, tossing conventions aside with his clique in tow

The Dandy Warhols

Get ready for a massive concussion of rock and roll with The Dandy Warhols live on stage in Worthing!

The Dandy Warhols
are progressing into the next chapter of their self-described “25 year act of sonic rebellion.”

“We’ve always been driven to create art with emotional clarity,” concludes Taylor-Taylor. “That’s what the world needs more than ever right now. I’ve never felt so strongly that people are losing their minds, and it’s more of them than ever before. Local politics, international politics, news programs, sitcoms, and our president all feel like the heat got turned up. It doesn’t feel like a natural progression of insanity, it just happened. Most people are behaving in a manner that can only be described as batshit crazy.”

With the future stretching out ahead of them, and an impressive back catalogue behind them, 2022 promises to be both a celebration of the past and a glimpse into the unknown of what’s yet to come.

Metronomy

Metronomy

Plus support from Folly Group

Metronomy today release their seventh studio album Small World via Because Music. The nine-track project includes the previously released singles ‘It's good to be back’, which confronts the common platitude coming out of the pandemic, and ‘Things will be fine’, that grapples with harnessing hopeful, sunny optimism in the face of difficult situations. The project also follows their previous EP Posse EP Volume 1 released last year.

Small World is an album that sees Metronomy return to simple pleasures, nature, and an embracing in part of more pared down, songwriterly sonics, all while asking broader existential questions: which feels at least somewhat rooted in the period of time during which it was made – 2021. Finding appreciation in nature and our roots, while reappraising the things we value as we get older are all things that are part and parcel of the human experience: though it has all felt accelerated and emphasized in this past year or so. Through the tumultuous ebb and flow of the years, Metronomy continues to endure, and Joe Mount’s ability as a songwriter, arranger and producer shines through on Small World, evergreen.

Listen to Small World

Metronomy are set to head out on a 47-date European tour next month which begins in Porto, Portugal on March 1st before hitting Madrid, Milan, Warsaw, Paris, Liverpool and Bristol and stops off in London on May 7th for a huge Alexandra Palace show. Support comes from Hak Baker, Goat Girl, Grove, Lynks, Porij, Pongo, NZCA LINES & Sparkling.

“wonderful new album, Small World… captures the strangeness of the past two years: how we learnt to value the simple things — family, friends, nature, leisure — as we grappled with upheaval and fear.” - Sunday Times Culture

“Small World might just have the biggest heart of any Metronomy record yet” - Rolling Stone UK

“The British indie-synth-pop troupe are at their jolliest here, clopping into your happy place on a jaunty Chicago house bassline” - The Guardian

“Metronomy are hitting pause on coy indie electronica and exploring more straightforward, heart-on-sleeve material for their new album ‘Small World’” - NME
"Small World is inhabited by earworms, a sepia-tinged record that recalls loves and summers past... Fittingly, the most joy on Small World is found in its microscopic details, the moments with a precise curatorial touch leaving the best taste in the mouth” - Loud and Quiet

Robyn Hitchcock + Jessica Lee Morgan

Robyn Hitchcock is one of England's most enduring contemporary singer/songwriters and live performers. A surrealist poet, talented guitarist, cult artist and musician's musician, Hitchcock is among alternative rock's father figures and is the closest thing the genre has to a Bob Dylan (not coincidentally his biggest musical inspiration).

Since founding the art-rock band The Soft Boys in 1976, Robyn has recorded more than 20 albums as well as starred in ‘Storefront Hitchcock’ an in concert film recorded in New York and directed by Jonathan Demme.

Blending folk and psychedelia with a wry British nihilism, Robyn describes his songs as ‘paintings you can listen to’. His most recent album is self-titled and marks his 21st release as a solo artist. Out on April 21 2017, the album is produced by Brendan Benson (The Raconteurs). Hitchcock describes it as a "ecstatic work of negativity with nary a dreary groove."

It has received rave reviews from UNCUT, Rolling Stone, Paste, Tidal and more.

"A gifted melodist, Hitchcock nests engaging lyrics in some of the most bracing, rainbow-hued pop this side of Revolver. He wrests inspiration not from ordinary life but from extraordinary imaginings..." - Rolling Stone

"These 10 gems slither, rock, roll, glide and shapeshift, coalescing around Hitchcock’s typically anxious, strained but striking and immediately identifiable vocals." - American Songwriter

"Beloved of everyone from Led Zeppelin to REM, Hitchcock has only enhanced his status with this wonderful outing." - Hot Press
"Witty, moving and seriously catchy, Robyn Hitchcock is a glorious return for a man who wasn’t really gone in the first place." - Paste Magazine

+ Jessica Lee Morgan

Jessica Lee Morgan is a singer songwriter who doesn't beat around the bush. She's been raised on rock and folk by legendary parents, Mary Hopkin and Tony Visconti, and writes songs that reflect her upbringing and jobs in the real world. Declan McKenna + Will Joseph Cook

Declan McKenna + Will Joseph Cook

In late 2019, Declan Mckenna headed out to Nashville to record his second album, Zeros, with producer Jay Joyce. By September 2020, he was battling out for a number 1 record with The Rolling Stones.   “Nashville is a great place to record because it’s filled with a lot of creative people and music heads trying to escape LA.”  This idea of a refuge is fitting for Declan, who wanted to be away from the pressures of London or the drab consistency of home, allowing for an intimacy and a desire to explore on this super galactic album that can only really be pursued in a place that is unfamiliar. Zeros is playful, wonderfully strange and intensely musical, but there’s a dark shadow looming throughout. It’s Coors Light and cowboy boots escaping a Silicon Valley dystopia.

Whilst Declan might have lost that particular battle by a whisker to Jagger and his cohorts on the very last day of sales, it showed just how far Declan had come since his arrival as a slight in stature, big ball of fizzing teenage energy only a few years earlier. The boy most likely to had very quickly become the young man to beat.

But for all the chart noise and colourful media presence, it’s the music that does the lionshare of the talking. Zeros is a curious, unique and bold record that is teeming with fresh ideas and nods back to eras that have no right to head up the charts in the year 2020. It’s a very British trait to focus on age, but it simply has no right to be conceived by a twenty one year-old who was younger still in its writing.

The unshakeable confidence and boldness of Declan’s voice and the stories he tells allows these songs to truly land; setting the tone for a world-building album, and this new world builds just as the world we know ends. His expansive, experimental structures and loss of inhibitions builds more than just a world but the entire sky and all the stars within it. These tracks and their characters are in constant conversation, they are subtly self-referencing, mature, complex and at times life-affirming but always unafraid to laugh… and Declan Mckenna is laughing hysterically as he pushes the big red button.

“Unstoppable Gen Z Icon” – The Big Issue

“The wonder boy of British Music” - Attitude

“A brilliant second album from indie’s boy wonder”  – ★★★★★ DORK

“Spaced-out storytelling from an indie wunderkind…a delight” – ★★★★ Q Magazine

“Star-spangled and confident AF… ‘Zeros’ is a lot of fun” – ★★★★ DIY Magazine

“McKenna’s future looks intriguing…the work of an artist broadening his scope” - ★★★★ The Guardian

“Electric, entertaining and thought-provoking” – ★★★★ NME

“McKenna is to Bowie what Sam Fender is to Bruce Springsteen” – ★★★★ Evening Standard

“Declan is proving a rare talent to watch” – ★★★★ Daily Star

David Rodigan

David Rodigan

Rodigan.jpg

For over 40 years David Rodigan has been the top dog in the ganja-scented, bass heavy-atmosphere of Britain’s reggae dance-halls. The key to his success has been an unsinkable passion for reggae music, which first took a hold of him as a schoolboy when he heard ska music in the early ’60s. He developed an obsession with the music of Jamaica that generated an encyclopaedic knowledge of the island’s every artist, every song and every rhythm track.

His earliest experience of dee jaying was during lunch breaks once a week in the gym at Gosford Hill School in Kidlington, Oxford. On leaving school he landed a place at the Rose Bruford College of Speech and Drama in 1971, where he spent three years studying to become an actor. He worked extensively in repertory theatre and appeared in a number of television productions such as ‘Doctor Who’ (BBC) and ‘Shackleton’ (BBC); he also performed his one-man show ‘Zima Junction’ at literature festivals and theatres in the 1970s; a dramatisation of the poem by the Russian writer Yevtushenko.

Rodigan began his reggae broadcasting career in 1978 on BBC Radio London. He moved to Capital Radio in 1979 and remained there for eleven years broadcasting his legendary ‘Roots Rockers’ show every Saturday night. His credibility was ensured when he began clashing with Jamaica’s champion DJ, Barry G on JBC Radio in Jamaica. He then went on to clash with all the top Jamaican sound sys-tems in the West Indies, the USA and England.

In 1984 he joined BFBS (British Forces Broadcasting Corp) where broadcast his weekly reggae show for 25 years until 2009.

In 1990 he joined the newly legalised Kiss 100 where he presented a variety of daytime shows for 10 years, followed by a decade in his evening specialist slot. When his show was pushed back to the small hours in a programming reshuffle, David took a bold stance, protesting against the marginalisa-tion of reggae music before leaving the station in a dramatic media frenzy in 2012. A day later the BBC came calling and signed David. For the last 3 years he has remarkably straddled two different worlds, broadcasting every Sunday evening on BBC 1Xtra to a largely youthful audience, whilst host-ing his Summer Series on BBC Radio 2 on Tuesdays.

In 2006 he was inducted into the Sony Radio Academy Hall Of Fame. He also won the Sony Radio Academy Gold Award for ‘Best Specialist Music Programme’ in 2009 for his Sunday night Kiss Show ‘Rodigan’s Reggae’ and a Silver Award in 2014 for his Radio 2 Summer Series.

He plays his unique collection of customised dub plates and classic recordings extensively across the globe from New York to Tokyo, Berlin to Kingston Jamaica to loyal reggae fans of all ages.

2012 was a truly vintage year for David. In Jan he was awarded an MBE for his services to broadcast-ing, in April he took home the World Cup Clash title in Queens NYC, and in May he was awarded his forth Sony Gold Award for his superb 13 part series on BBC Radio 2. 2012 also saw the launch of his 'Ram Jam' events brand, with David hosting numerous festival tents across Europe.

2014 saw David join forces with platinum selling act Chase & Status and the legendary Shy FX, under the collective name Rebel Sound, competing in the Red Bull Music Culture Clash at Earls Court infront of 25,000 fans plus another 2million streaming the event from the comfort of their own homes. Rebel Sound won the clash comprehensively and trended #1 on Twitter worldwide and were quickly invited to headline Reading & Leeds festival in 2015.

Ibibio Sound Machine

So an Afro-funk ensemble and a synth-pop band walk into a studio…

Ibibio Sound Machine and Hot Chip—fixtures of the London music scene, bound by a love for electronic dance music—recently recorded a new Ibibio Sound Machine single called “Electricity” at Hot Chip’s studio. The track debuted earlier today on Lauren Laverne's BBC 6Music show and comes alongside news of a run of UK shows in 2022, their first tour since 2019.

Watch & share the lyric video for “Electricity” by Ibibio Sound Machine now

Ibibio Sound Machine’s Eno Williams on “Electricity”:

Even in trying times, “without love, there’s no electricity.” This one started out as an idea to mix Afrobeat with Giorgio Moroder–style synth vibes. The end section with Alfred’s korego (Ghanaian 2-stringed folk guitar) solo was already there when we got into the studio, but then we added the big kick drum that happens underneath and Owen from Hot Chip’s crazy drum machine percussion at the end, which gave it a futuristic Afro feel when mixed with the more talking drum parts.

Ibibio Sound Machine was founded by Williams and Max Grunhard in 2013 with the idea of combining the unique sound of the Ibibio language that Eno spoke growing up in Nigeria with both traditional West African and more modern electronic musical elements. They linked up with Merge Records in 2017 for Uyai and returned with Doko Mien in 2019.

Tickets for Ibibio Sound Machine’s UK shows go on sale Friday at 10am GMT!

“a groove-driven melange of styles which also takes in gospel, funk, post- and electro-punk and contemporary R&B, alongside African polyrhythms, horns and guitar” —Guardian

“Led by singer Eno Williams, Uyai becomes a wildly diverse mix of global sounds whose focus this time has turned to themes of liberation, power, and beauty—specifically that of women.” —Pitchfork

Barenaked Ladies

Barenaked Ladies

+ Boothby Graffoe

Over the course of their remarkable career, Barenaked Ladies have sold over 15 million albums, written multiple top 20 hits (including radio staples “One Week,” “Pinch Me,” “If I Had $1,000,000”), garnered 2 GRAMMY nominations, won 8 JUNO Awards, had Ben & Jerry’s name an ice cream after them (“If I Had 1,000,000 Flavours”), participated in the first-ever “space-to-earth musical collaboration” with astronaut Chris Hadfield, and garnered an international fan base whose members number in the millions. In 2018, the band were inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame and Toronto Mayor John Tory declared October 1st “Barenaked Ladies Day.”

Known for their tremendous hits and incredible live shows, the band has continued to grow their international following for over 30 years and experienced a whirlwind of successes throughout this last year.

In May, nearly a dozen years after executive producers Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady asked BNL to compose a theme song for a new show they’d created called “The Big Bang Theory,” the multi-platinum band was invited back for the historic series finale.  Lead singer/guitarist Ed Robertson recorded a special acoustic rendition for the momentous occasion. The band also performed the theme song that night on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.  “Our association with the show is something we’re all very proud of,” said Robertson, “And being involved in so many fun ways as the show draws to a close is really cool. The chance to play the song on ‘The Late Show’ with the whole cast present is a lovely bookend to an incredible run.”

That same week, BNL followed up their stylistically adventurous 2017 studio album Fake Nudes, with the release of a digital EP, Fake Nudes: Naked. The EP featured 8 new acoustic renditions of songs from Fake Nudes, giving the collection of tracks a fresh folk-tinged sound that makes listeners feel like they’re at a special, intimate live performance.

The group recently released a brand new vinyl-exclusive album, Original Hits, Original Stars. This greatest hits collection includes their iconic “Big Bang Theory Theme,” which makes its first ever appearance on vinyl, as well as the aforementioned hits, in addition to classic favorites like “The Old Apartment” and “It’s All Been Done.” The vinyl edition captures the quintessential selection for fans, offering them a quality sound that deserves to be heard on a record player, coming just in time for the holiday season.

When it comes to making timeless songs, like many of those on Original Hits, Original Stars, Robertson attributes it to their group’s connection as musicians. “The diversity that’s always been a hallmark of this band is really liberating when we’re making records, because we never feel restricted to a certain sound. It’s way more malleable than that: whatever sound we all create together, that’s Barenaked Ladies.”

Through the years, the band has endlessly proved their undeniable power as a live act, with each set propelled by their chemistry. Only a couple months ago, they wrapped up a summer-long North American tour with Hootie and the Blowfish to rave reviews, including Billboard who wrote, “Barenaked Ladies may have opened the show, but its headliner status was undeniable.” The ‘Group Therapy Tour’ took them to major markets throughout North America including legendary venues such as New York’s Madison Square Garden, The Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, and Toronto’s Budweiser Stage. The Billboard Live Music Summit recently acknowledged the success of the tour, giving it their inaugural “Tour of the Summer” award.

Now, with 2020 on the horizon, BNL have a jam-packed year in mind, with many more surprise announcements to come. They’ve already started work on what will be their sixteenth studio album, and just announced UK tour dates beginning the end of March.
